Education
I am a recent Graduate of Western State Colorado University. My degree is in biology with an emphasis in ecology and wildlife. I also have a degree in mathematics with a minor in chemistry. I have a deep passion for these subjects and I won an award at Western State Colorado University for my passion inside and outside of the classroom. During my education I got the opportunity to participate in more than five different independent research projects. I am well rehearsed in a variety of biological practices – from ecology to biochemistry, as well as knowing many different varieties of mathematics. I love both applied and pure mathematics and am able to talk about math in many different educational contexts. Overall, I love biology, math, teaching, and learning. I am a dedicated student and I am planning on attending University of Washington beginning in fall 2016.
Experience
While going to school at Western State Colorado University I worked as a math tutor for 4 years. I worked multiple days a week tutoring all levels of math – algebra, trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra, analysis, and abstract algebra. I was well known around the school and the community as an experienced tutor. I love working with students of all ages and I have seven younger siblings, which is a testament to my patience and ability to work with younger students. I also have been a Supplemental Instruction Leader for five semesters at my University. I was a supplemental instructor for calculus I, calculus II, introduction to chemistry, introduction to cellular biology, and software based statistics. To be a supplemental instruction leader I was required to plan and hold three classroom sessions a week for students enrolled in these classes. My classroom sessions were based on peer learning strategies and resource utilization. I have held hundreds of successful Supplemental Instruction lessons and I love to connect with students through fun and interesting material. I have taken classes in nearly all departments of my school. I have a general knowledge of physics, chemistry, geology, philosophy, and computer science. I have also taken classes in aquatic biology, fisheries, nutrition, and biochemistry.

Hobbies
I am a huge outdoor enthusiast! Much of my love for biology spurs from my love of the outdoors. I have worked on multiple farms and ranches in Colorado learning about nature and how biology relates to real life. I am an avid fisherman and have a deep love for fly-fishing. I have been fishing since I was three years old. I also love hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, and bird watching. I was raised in a family with seven younger siblings and even more young cousins. I have learned so much patience and understanding from my extensive family. I enjoy teaching my siblings and exploring new areas. I have lived in Colorado my whole life and I am so excited to be moving up to Washington to learn and explore then new area.
